Assessing the safety of private e-scooter use in the UK along with the injury list E-scooter-casualty-data-for-the-UK-1-Jan-2021-present-20211028since the beginning of 2021.

The data is sparse and disconnected.

E-SCOOTER CASUALTY DATA

The PACT report says there is little or no current measure of the impact of the safety of private e-scooter on riders and other road users.

There have been at least 9 deaths in 2021 relating to e-scooters, and numerous injuries, including a significant number of life-changing head injuries.

The data of 2021 to mid-October includes over 300 injury-collisions within the UK, in which there were nine fatal and 79 serious injuries. This includes 24 head injuries.

In the previous two years (2019 and 2020) there were three deaths.

PACTS has been awarded a grant by the Road Safety Trust to collect data relating to incidents involving these micromobility devices and to form recommendations for their construction and use.

The idea of the data collecting was to find data gathering from a range of sources. Including the media, police forces and at least one major trauma centre.

With the idea of PACT publishing a report summarising the findings and recommendations for regulation of private e-scooters – construction and use; and, host a webinar to disseminate the findings.

PACTS wants the future Micro Mobility legislation to include evidence-based safety measures to protect the riders and other road users. Brining a balanced and objective approach to this new mode of transport.

PACTS is recording information about e-scooter incidents and making it publicly accessible using media, police and NHS sources.
